Lowland clayey soils are one of the most valuable resources as they cover areas often producing the highest yields of rice. In Bangladesh, large tracts of low and medium low-lying rice fields either lie fallow after B. aman/ T. aman harvest or are prepared for the cultivation of Aus. Often the prime time of planting is missed if the field is prepared through traditional tillage methods due to heavy consistence and slow drainage of clayey soils. Despite these constraints there is great potential for growing some upland crops viz., wheat, mustard, pigeonpea, chickpea, potato, soybean or corn after rice on the clayey soils by zero or minimum tillage.
