Boron nutrition and boron application in sesame I. The effects of boron on growth and development, yield and quality in sesame

Boron element was applied in tests of field plots and pots of sesame in Huaibei plain and middle-lower reaches of the Yangtse River. The results showed sesame yield increased by 1.1-33.7%, average by 13.1%. Boron was applied before sowing of sesame, yield increased by 10.8%, if it was sprayed, yield increased by 17.8%. Under condition of appling boron, the oil content of sesame and the linoleic acid were evident high and the other fatty acid changed unremarkable. At the deficiency of boron, leaves of sesame plants thicked and overlapped, the growth and development were inhibited and top-plants necrotic
