The determination of water relations and physiological indexes for irrigation of soybean (Glycine max)

The diurnal and seasonal changes of water relationships in soybean plants were measured and analyzed in 1986-1987 in relation to sowing time, leaf position and varieties. The relationships between water potential (psi) and relative water content (RWC) were studied in the process of water absorption or water losing of the plant and were simulated by dividing them into two phases, i.e. using the formula RWC=1.62-0.35Ln psi before turgor disappearance and using the formula 1/psi-0.03+0.13RWC after turgor disapperance. The water potentials at 50% reduction in growth rate, 50% reduction in photosynthetic rate, first critical point and second critical point were measured in vitro and in vivo. They were -0.88 Mpa, -1.22Mpa, -1.27 -- -2.09 Mpa and-2.04 -- -2.90 Mpa, respectively, which could be used as irrigation indexes
