Embryonic callus induction and plant regeneration from cultured immature embryos of wheat

Immature wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) embryos were cultured on modified MS medium to induce somatic embryogenesis. The effects of the genotypes and media composition were investigated in this system. Embryogenic callus was induced from all nine tested genotypes and plant regeneration was induced from seven genotypes. A strong genotypic effect on the capacity and frequency of embryogenic callus formation was found. Callusing response of the tested genotypes ranged from 4.1 to 90.7. Cultivar Zdar gave the best results.
