Expert systems and general methods of artificial intelligence belong to the promising means enabling rationalization of management and decision processes also in the mechanized agricultural production. Applying the methods of artificial intelligence, knowlege processing can be automated in sophisticated manner and in this way the decision situations hard to algorithmize can be solved. A survey of possible applications of expert systems in agriculture is presented; there is also a description of the new-developed small expert system AGROEXPERT, applied to the decision process of maize harvest within the framework of the KSL (Maize Slusovice) system.
