Some treatments affecting flowering and seed production of carrot. 3.- Effect of root vernalization

Roots (stecklings) of carrot cv. "Chantenay Red Core", (which is not easily flowered in Egypt), were vernalized at 3-5 C for different duration i.e., O, 15, 30, 45 or 60 days, to study the efffect of these treatments on its flowering and seed production. After replanting, cold storage treatments, specially the longest duration, increased number of successful plants (those which servived), hastened flowering, increased seed-stalk length and increased number of umbels/plant. Seed yield harvested from different orders and hence seed yield/plant were significantly increased by 45 and 60 days of root vernalization. Besides, duration of 60 days gave the highest seed yield/plot.
