Two field experiments were conducted during 1985 and 1986 seasons at the Demonstration field of Meet Ghamr, Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt. The effects of rice varieties and fertilization with N and P on yield and chemical content of grains were studied. Varieties differed significantly in panicle length, weight of 1000-grain, brown rice % straw yield and nitrogen percentage of rice grains. Giza 172 surpassed significantly the variety IR 1626 in all the previous characters.
