[The use of competitive crops and the residues of some plants for the control of weeds]

This study comprised of two field experiments. The first was aimed at looking at the effect of two seeding rates of five competitive plants (millet, cotton, alfalfa, maize, sorghum) on weed control, the effect then compared with three additional treatments; glyphosate, hand weeding and control. Data obtained were, height of dominant weed johnson grass, heights of crop plants, air dried weights of both crops and weed were also taken at the end of experiment. The second experiment examined the effect of two rates of fresh plant residues (leaves of oleander, athel, common liquorice, sunflower, and eucalyptus) which were air dried and then added to each individual plot in amount equal to 0.5, 5 kg of fresh weight. Number of tillers of johnson grass and dry weight of two cuttings of weed were obtained
