The study considered the three most important wholesale fruit and vegetable markets in Jordan-Amman, Irbid, Zarka and Al-Arda, which is the most important shipping point market in Jordan Valley. It focused on farmers supplying those markets, the commission agents facilitating sales of farmers products, and exporters and retailers being supplied by those markets. Specifically it described the structure of wholesale markets in terms of number of sellers, commission agents and buyers and evaluated the degree of concentration of trade in the hands of intermediaries. Furthermore, comparative behaviour of market participants was studied with respect to potential unfair pricing practices, payment procedures and/or their behaviour which might affect the economic performance of the markets. Price formation mechanism was evaluated to determine if improvements might be made through government decrees or market management intervention, which would improve functioning of the markets. Pricing efficiency with respect to transparency of price throughout the Kingdom was also evaluated
