[Effect of different levels of urea fertilizer and plant spacing on growth and production of cabbage]

This study was conducted for two consecutive seasons to investigate the effects of three levels of urea (0, 300 and 600 kg/ha) and plant spacings (20, 30 and 40 cm within rows) on growth and yield of cabbage cv. "local". Results showed that yield, mean head weight and diameter (70.82 ton/ha, 1.53 kg and 22.91 cm, respectively) were significantly increased with the maximum level of the fertilizer, whereas decreasing plant spacings resulted in a significant increase in total yield (58.22 ton/ha) and a decrease in heat weight and diameter (0.92 kg and 16.2 cm) respectively. The study also showed that the increase in nitrogen level to 600 kg urea/ha and plant spacing to 40 cm resulted in an increase in leaf number/plant and leaf content of nitrogen and protein during the two seasons of vegetative growth, and at harvest. The highest yield (80.84 ton/ha) was obtained from 600 kg urea/ha and 20 cm within rows, whereas the best quality was gained by using the same fertilizer level but with 40 cm within rows
