Geographical distribution of net primary productivity (NPP) estimates for natural vegetation in Korea was drawn up by Chikugo model (Uchijima and Seino : 1985) and its applicability for estimating the biomass production of rice was attempted. NPP was determined by various climatological elements such as net radiation, precipitation and latent heat. The annual accumulated temperature above 10deg C ranged from 2,500deg C to 4,500deg C with the highest one in the southern coastal area and the lowest one in northern mountainous area. Total solar radiation and net radiation ranged from 4.0 to 5.5 GJm** (-2) and from 1.5 to 3.0 GJm** (-2) respectively. The conversion efficiency of solar radiation to NPP ranged from 0.4 to 0.6 % with higher one in the south western area than that in the north eastern region. Annual NPP ranged from 6 to 18 t ha** (-1) with great regional difference and its geographical distribution was almost similar to that of the solar radiation. Low NPP of northern district resulted from low temperature as well as less percipitation and solar radiation. The geographical distribution of total biomass production of rice plants was considerably similar to that of NPP estimates
