The impact of the Nutrition Improvement Model which utilizes a Barangay (village) Integrated Development Approach for Nutrition Improvement (BIDANI) was evaluated. The program was found effective in the pilot areas. The 50% reduction in malnutrition was a direct effect of improvement in energy and protein intake and health status of the family. Food consumption was raised by increasing food production at household level and generating higher family incomes. An indigenous development worker plays a key role in program planning and implementation. Suggestions are given for improving the programme performance. The methodology for evaluation provides relevant, adequate, and simple tool for understanding mechanisms for effectiveness.
