The improved corn sheller has the following advantages: (1) shelled corn has a high purity of 99.99% and lesser damaged grains (2.75%); (2) the sheller has a high shelling recovery of 99.99%; and (3) wet shelling, with 22 to 35% moisture content, can be done efficiently, thus minimizing aflatoxin contamination through early drying. The improved corn sheller has a capacity adapted for custom shelling business; thus, it can be owned by an individual farmer with capital, by a farmers' cooperative, or by traders. Farmers availing of the custom shelling services can also be benefited by the reduction of shelling losses and better product quality. Based on actual data gathered, a net income of P20,868 can be realized, which is equivalent to 54.2% return on investment and a benefit cost ratio of 1.73. With minimal shelling loss, the farmer can get higher income from his produce.
