Efficacy of valbazen as dewormer for gastrointestinal parasites of goats

Results obtained from this investigation revealed the following: (1) the feces of the goats examined after one day treatment of Valbazen dewormer in Treatment 1 (0.1 ml Valbazen), were 12,800; 15,200 and 10,700 parasites egg counts, respectively and the differences between treatments showed highly significant differences (P 0.01); (2) the examination from feces of goats after three days treatment of the drug showed that Treatment 3 (0.1 ml. Valbazen) gave the lowest worm egg counts of 1,200. This was followed by goats in Treatment 1 (6.1 ml Valbazen) with 4,200 and Treatment egg counts. There was highly significant differences (P 0.01) between treatment groups; (3) the observations on feces after seven days treatment of the drug showed that Treatment 3 (0.5 ml Valbazen) gave 300 egg counts followed by Treatment 2 (0.3 ml Valbazen) with 900 and Treatment 1 (0.1 ml Valbazen) with 1,200. The differences between treatment groups reflected highly significant differences (P0.01); (4) the higher the dosage of Valbazen dewormer per kilogram of body weights of the goats, the more effective it was in controlling the gastrointestinal parasites of the animals; (5) the species of gastrointestinal parasites that attacked goats were Fasciola hipatica, Dictyocaulus filaria, Eimeria ovina, Homonchus contortus, Strongybides papillosus, Thysonosoma actinoides and Monieza expanza; (6) the Eimeria ovina was the only parasite species present in the feces of the experimental goats after three and seven days treatment of the drug; (7) the results indicated that Valbazen dewormer was very effective in controlling different species of parasites except Eimeria ovina which needed longer time to suppress it
