Communication study of corn farmers in Bukidnon [Philippines]

One hundred ninety-eight corn farmers in Bukidnon [Philippines] were selected through purposive opportunity sampling. They represented the corn farmers in Northern, Central, and Southern Bukidnon. A pre-tested questionnaire, containing an open-and-closed-ended questions, was administered personally to determine their communication needs and problems related to corn production. The findings revealed that they preferred the interpersonal medium, i.e., use of extension agents more than the mass media. Among the mass media, their first preference was radio. This was followed by print and audiovisual. Their number one constraint to corn production was the presence of corn pests and diseases. Hence, their expressed communication need for all the media was the control of pests and diseases. They also expressed recent technologies as their training needs
