Guano and sunflower leaves as organic fertilizers were tested in the field to achieve the following objectives: a) to assess the N and P contribution of guano and sunflower leaves on the growth and yield of corn; b) to determine the effects of guano and sunflower leaves as organic fertilizers on Maapag clay; and c) to compare the economics of using guano and sunflower leaves with inorganic fertilizers on the yield of corn. The treatments were laid out in a 3 x 4 split plot design in three replications. Sunflower and guano were apllied two weeks before planting and mineralized N and available P were analyzed after two weeks. Dry matter yield was not significantly increased with the application of sunflower leaves and guano. A significant result of grain yield over the control was observed in treatments applied with 2- ton and 4- ton- sunflower leaves/hectare. Increasing rates of sunflower leaves and guano application decreased soil mineralized N and soil phosphorus after harvest. The addition of sunflower leaves and guano increased soil pH, but organic matter declined after harvest.
