Vindollo, C. | Acuna, R.C. | Montojo, E. (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Quezon Ave., Quezon City (Philippines))
Crop-weather calendar prepared by the Agromet Division PAGASA [Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Quezon City, Philippines] were guides to cropping seasons and cropping patterns. The climatic requirements of crops were reviewed from available literature and the time of the year wherein most of the requirements met are the recommended cropping seasons. Climatic requirements studied included temperature, wind, daylength, and radiation. The crop-weather calendar format presented the recommended cropping season in the upper half portion, while the lower half presented the stages of crop development. The weather parameters are as follows: number of rainy days for the week, weekly minimum and maximum temperature, wind speed and direction, mean occurrence of cyclones, and also derived agrometeorological values like potential evapotranspiration and the corresponding water balance. A set of crop-weather calendars for each area or province also included appendices to indicate modal onset, peak, and recession of the rainy season, duration of daylength as guide for photo-periodic plant varieties, and a list of early maturing varieties of crops for multiple cropping considerations.
