An experiment on weaned piglets fed a diet supplemented with 20 or 30 percent lactose was carried out. The positive correlation between the diet lactose content and daily gains was stated. The diet supplement of lactose had no effect on carcass quality in pigs. A decrease of protein digestibility in older pigs and increase in younger ones was observed. The content of volatile fatty acid in the pig caecum was related to the lactose content in diet
