Content of sugars and nitrogen compounds in leaves of four cultivars of sugar beet characterized by different susceptibility to the feeding of Peogomyia hyoscyami Panz. larvae was compared. It was found that in the leaves of resistant cultivars PN-Mono 2 and AJ-Polycama the content of reducing and total sugars was larger but that of sucrose and nitrogen compounds smaller than in susceptible cultivars AJ-Poly 1 and A.
