Influence of twinning on milk yield, reproductive performance and culling rate of cows as well as on the viability of their calves

The investigations were carried out in the years 1979-84 on 362 Lowland Black-and-White cows. The multiple pregnancy was stated in 80 cows. The milk yield of twin bearing cows was after calving lower by 90 kg of milk and the gestation interval was longer by 8.9 days than in control cows. During 10 months after calving 25.0 percent of experimental cows were culled. The percentage of stillborn calves amounted 15.6 percent in the experimental group and 1.4 percent on the control one
