Suitability of red and white cattle for husbandry in the Nowy Sacz region

Experiments were carried out in 1984. The aim of the studies was to estimate the results of ousting the Red Polish breed, particulary through its crossing with the Red-and-White cattle. The breed and age structure of the cows, milk performance as well as weight and characteristics of the exterior of the cows in the Nowy Sacz region are given. With respect to milk performance the Red-and-White cows proved to be superior to the Red Polish breed by 129-333 kg of milk, whereas the Red Polish cows were characterized by a higher butter fat content. It was found that the process of breed-exchange undergoes fluctuations depending on the breeding region
