Resistance to Phytophthora infestans in the potato
1990
Swiezynski, K.M. (Institute for Potato Research, Bonin (Poland))
The resistance to Phytophthora infestans is most important for areas of potato production, where fungus is likely to cause serious losses and chemical protection cannot be applied. In breeding resistant cultivars it is essential to produce genotypes with multiple resistance. Such resistance is less likely to break down due to the appearance in nature of new fungus pathotypes. In varietal assessment it is important to consider that differences in resistance to P. infestans are underestimated in field trials
