Occurrence of aflatoxins and aflatoxin-producing strains of Aspergillus flavus in groundnut cultivars in Egypt

Twenty-one groundnut cultivars obtained from ICRISAT, India, and one cultivar (Giza 4) from Egypt included as a local susceptible control, were tested for their ability to support aflatoxin production. All the cultivars supported production of aflatoxins B1 and B2, although the amounts produced differed between cultivars. The lowest level of total aflatoxin production being 19 180 m g/kg seed in cultivar Ah 7223, and the highest 44 290 m g/kg seed in cultivar Giza 4
