Intercropping of legumes in the double-row corn planting

Early rainy season trial indicated that corn-legume intercropping caused a delay in flowering, an increase in plant height, a reduction of light intensity at all statures of canopy and consequently a reduction of grain yield of all three legumes in comparison with those of solid legumes while differences were only marginal when comparison between corn in corn-legume intercropping and in solid corn planting was made. Intercropping of one row of peanut between the 40 cm. corn double-rows gave the highest income. Results of late rainy season experiment were generally similar to those of early rainy season experiment. Intercropping of two rows of mungbean between the 40 cm. corn double rows yielded the highest income and highest LER as well.
