Postharvest disease of mangoes caused by the stem end rat (Dothiorella dominicana pet. et. cif.) and its control

The indiculation studied revealed that both mycelium and conidia could cause disease through the stem end and wounded part. The percentages of sugar content in mango fruits were reduced when disease developed. Comparative studies on the fungus, D. dominicana Thailand isolate and Australia isolates indicated that they were similar in morphological characters but the former was more pathogenic. In addition, Thailand isolate produced pycnidia better than Australia isolate. Postharvest treatment by soaking fruit in Benlate 75-C (carbendazim), Fundazole (benomyl) suspension at 500 ppm. for 3, 5 or 7 minutes or in hot water at 55 degree celsius for 5 or 7 minutes gave a good control of this disease.
