Study of urea ensiling of rice straw, sugarcane tops and pineapple wastes for dry season supplementary feeds for dairy heifers

This study was conducted using pineapple wastes, rice straw and sugarcane tops ensiling with urea for feed supplemented during dry season for 84 days. Sixteen dairy heifers of 8-12 months of age with an average body weight of 155.8 kg were used in a randomized complete block design and given four treatment groups with four animals, each in individual pens. All treatments, animals were fed daily fresh paragrass added concentrate 1 % of body weight and in the afternoon supplemented with pineapple wastes, rice straw and sugarcane tops plus molasses in treatment 1,2,3. Treatment 4 fed with fresh paragrass plus molasses only. The average daily live weight gain of group 1,2,3 and 4 were 460, 560, 450 and 490 g, dry matter consumption per head per day were 17.20, 17.93, 14.47 and 15.38 kg. Feed cost per kilogram of live weight gain were 14.31, 12.97, 15.10 and 14.79 Baht. respectively.
