Dumanovic, D. (Institut za kukuruz "Zemun Polje", Beograd (Yugoslavia))
In a synthetic population of Alexho maize produced after 24 cycles of selection, all the investigated characteristics changed. A significant increase of oil content occured as a results of a direct effect of 24-cycle selection. Increase of the oil percentage caused changes of all the investigated characteristics. Mass of 100-grains, lodging, total plant height and plant heigh up to the panicle height significantly decreased. There were insignificant changes in grain yield and water content in grain. Additive variance significantly decreased in C 24 with oil content in grain, 100-grain mass and lodging. Dominant effect of genes and inbreeding depression were significant for grain yield, plant height up to the corncob and total plant height. Correlation between oil content and yield increased whereas correlation between oil content and 100-grain mass decreased after 24 cycles of selection to a high oil content in Alexho population.
