Effect of different nitrogen doses on the activity of nitrate reductase (NR) in the high-yield genotypes and the high-sugar genotypes of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.) was established. The highest NR activity in the investigated genotypes, with the exception of Gemo monopur genotype, was established at the level of 100 kg N/ha. This N level secured also the highest yields of roots and biological sugar. Further increase of N dose resulted in the significant increase of NR in the Gemo monopur genotype. Consequently the activity was the highest at the level of 150 kg N/ha . The investigated genotypes had different NR activity. In sugarbeet plants, the nitrate reductase enzyme may successfully be used as an indicator of sugar beet provision with nitrogen.
