In agricultural and ecological area of northern Backa (Yugoslavia) the investigation was carried out into the effect of pre-sowing soil treatment for sugar beet by applying various implements in various periods upon the dynamics of growth of root g/plant, above-ground part g/plant, number of plants/ha, root yield t/ha and above ground part t/ha. Variants of the pre-sowing treatment with the smallest number of developed plants resulted in the greatest growth dynamics and the lowest root yield. The highest yield of root and the above ground part was obtained with the conventional pre-sowing treatment which included disk harrowing and levelling in autumn and only cultivation in spring. The lowest root yield was obtained in the variant which included disk harrowing and cultivation in spring.
