The total sulphur content was investigated in the Prilep tobacco variety as well as the effect of the mineral nutrition upon the sulphur content in tobacco grown in the same conditions. It was a two-year trial with 4 variants of a different N content (0,N1=30kg/ha + PK, N2=110 kg/ha + PK) and 2 variants with irrigation with 65% and 85% of the field water capacity. The fertilized variants were treated with the same rates of phosphorus, potassium and sulphur (550 kg/ha superphosphate with 88 kg/ha P2O5 and 187 kg/ha SO4, and 160 kg/ha potassium sulphate with 80 kg/ha K2O and 86 kg/ha SO4). The rang of sulphur content in the analyzed tobacco samples was 0.16% S to 0.60% S. By the influence of the mimeral nutrition, the sulphur concentration in tobacco increased evenly in all the variants. The mean value for the sulphur content in all the non-fertilized variants for the two-year period and for the two ways of irrigation was 0.245% S and the mean value for all the fertilized variants in tobacco was higher (mean value of all the samples reached 40% S, as compared to the 0.30% S in the year with a higher rainfall amounts).
