Fertility of sows on Slovene pig farms [Yugoslavia] in 1988

In Yugoslavia in 1988 on eight Slovene pig farms were analyzed 46,231 farrowings. 13,775 cullings and 10,317 returns. Piglet production with gilts (age at farrowing 349,9 days, number of liveborn piglets per litter 8,58, corrected interval between selection and farrowing 178,7 days and number of feeding days per liveborn piglet 20,84 days) was 15% cheaper than in 1980. With old sows piglet production (interval between farrowings 154,4 days, corrected interval between farrowings 180,6 days, number of liveborn piglets per liter 9.92 and number of feeding days per liveborn piglet 18,21 days) was 4% cheaper than in 1980. In 1988 lifetime performance of sows is 4,07 litters and 29,20 liveborn piglets in 709 days (production period of sows). The rate of the herd's annual renewal is 60,37%.
