Contribution to the study of inheritance of nicotine content in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.)

The mode of inheritance of nicotine content in F1, F2, B1 and B2 hybrids was analyzed by the method of incomplete diallel crossing of parental tobacco varieties. Analysis of the combining ability variance indicated that there were significant differences in values of the special combining abilities (SCA) and general combining abilities (GCA). Combinations (crosses) between parents with high values of GCA (cigar tobacco) and parents with low values of GCA had a significant value of SCA. Relatively high values of heritability in the broad sense, were obtained for several hybrids, which was not the case with heritability in the narrow sense.
