The effect of nitrogen on the content of harmful nitrogen in sugar beet cultivated on alluvial soil

The investigation was carried out on the alluvial soil type in the region of Kosovo Polje (Yugoslavia), in the conditions of dry soil cultivation, in 1976 and 1977. The following fertilization variants were applied: 1) control (without fertilization), 2) N1P1K1 (100:100:100 kg/ /ha), 3) N2P1K1 (150:100:100 kg/ha), 4) N2P2K1 (150:150:150 kg/ha), 5) N3P1K1 (200:100:100 kg/ha). 1976 was the most favourable according to the time of precipitations for the production of sugar beet in the control, and the amount of harmful nitrogen was lower than in 1977. Fertilizers, applied in 1976 had a significant effect upon the increase of absolute and relative values, higher than the control (control-100%, fertilizers-27%). The maximum values of harmful nitrogen in 1977 reach 154% (they were lower than in 1976 by 116%). The increased nitrogen doses (N1, N2, N3) increased the values of harmfulness. The most prominent was the variant N P K (200:100:100 kg/ha). The most favourable variant that could be recommended to the producers of sugar beet in this region was N2P1K1 (150:100:100 kg/ha).
