Daily intramuscular injections of 25 IU (n = 5) or 50 IU (n = 5) per 100 kg cow body weight for several days before the expected partus resulted in prepartal hyperglycemia and postpartal hypoglycemia and placenta retention in 25% or 75% of animals, respectively. In the first group gravidity lasted 279.5 and in the second 276.5 days.
