Investigation of the influence of the age of gilts at the first farrowing on the number live born and weaned piglets

As an experimental material served 408 first farrowed dams, with 4,043 pieces of farrowed lived born piglets, bred under swine farm in Gornje Dobrevo in Serbia (Yugoslavia). The gilts were formed in five groups at the first farrowing from 291 to 440 days between the groups. Investigations included: number of live born and weaned piglets in the litter of first farrowed dams, toward theirs age at the farrowing. On the basis of the results obtained, the following conclussions may be drawn: The average age of gilts first farrowing was 360,15 days, and the highest number of farrowing was in of the age from 351-380 days. The age of gilts of swedish landrace at the first farrowing had no influence on the number live born and weaned piglets. The average number of live born piglets, with age of gilts at the first farrowing, successively grow to age from 351-380 days, then decreases. The average number of the weaned piglets in the litter successively grows with age of the gilts at the first farrowing.
