Effect of late spring pasture surpluses on yield potential of hill pastures

Any improvement of soil fertility on hill pastures has significant effect on sward growth rate in spring. If the land is to steep or to rough for mowing, the late spring pasture surplus has substantial effect on herbage quality in summer and it lowers white clover proportion in sward. Hill pasture was divided in two equal sections and grazed with two groups of heifers. Each group had 4 paddocks. At the beginning of grazing season (73 days) one group was moved weekly from paddock to paddock. The other group of heifers graized all 4 paddocks at the same time. The obtained results show that there were not any differences in herbage allowance at both grazing sistems. Only in the sward there is more possibilities for white clover establishment, which substantialy increase herbage quality in summer, and in autumn.
