Annual Report 1979-1980 [West Indies Central Sugar Cane Breeding Station]
Details of research and other activities of the sugar cane breeding station during the period 1979-1980 are presented. In the genetic base-broadening programme, selection rates have increased to the point that more formal stage two trials are now needed. Extra studies of some of the high-fibre selections in relation to their potential value in the Tilby cane separation process were carried out. Methods for the evaluation of rust, particularly with a view to estimating yield loss was formulated.
