Modification of jute fabrics by etherification

Carpet backing cloths (CBC) were etherified with RX having C10 and 12 alkyl components. Crease recovery, abrasion resistance, moisture regain properties etc. were studied so as to compare with the results obtained by treating CBC with N- methylol resins. Cotton fabrics were also studied as a standard reference. The results indicate that considerable improvements are achieved with CBC after etherification.
