Scope for increasing the yield of indigenous potato varieties of Bangladesh

Indigenous potato varieties which now exist in a highly degenerated condition cover nearly 36% of the total potato growing area of Bangladesh. A package of practice by which the yields of these varieties can be significantly enhanced is now available. The package includes use of better quality seed tubers collected from apparently healthy plants, planting of medium and large sized seed tubers, early planting, judicious manuring and optimal irrigation or cover mulching. Steps required for the dissemination of the available technology to the farmers have been suggested.
