An experiment was conducted on 12 (twelve) native female calves of approximately same size, age and weighing between 31 to 44 kg, to find out the performance of water soaked and urea soaked rice straw (1, 2%) with supplementary feed against farmers practices at Farming System Research site, Narhatta, Bogra. A significant (P0.01) increase was observed in daily weight gain due to feeding urea soaked rice straw (1, 2%) than water soaked rice straw. There was no difference (P0.05) between 1 and 2% urea soaked rice straw 1 , 2%) based ration but the rate of body weight gain were 9.19,32 and 34 respectively. By this simple technique cattle feed that are aggravated due to drought or heavy rainfall, animal performance can be improved through urea soaking of rice straw with supplementary feed of available household resources and with minimum investment.
