1991
Ali, M.A.
An experiment was conducted with 300 sixty-day-old Fayoumi (F), white Leghorn (WL), Rhode Island Red (RIR), F x WL and F x RIR crossbred pullets to compare the performances in intensive and free range system. In the growing period (60-150 d), growth rate and feed conversion ratio did not differ significantly between breeds and crossbreds. While feed conversion and livability were significantly better in the intensive system than free range system. Sexual maturity, age at 50% production and peak production were significantly delayed in R.I.R. but not in other breeds and crossbreds. Breed and management interaction was significant on sexual maturity, age at 50% production and peak production. Egg production was significantly more in Fayoumi than other breeds and crossbreeds, while the egg size was significantly smaller. Crossbreeding Fayoumi male with white Leghorn or Rhode Island Red female significantly improved the egg size in the crossbreds. Egg production, egg size and feed efficiency were significantly better in the free range system than intensive system except livability.
