Studies on Nogos induced poisoning and its treatment in Guinea pigs [Bangladesh]

The single oral administration of nogos in doses of 25,50 and 76 mg/kg body wt. induced varying degree of toxicity and mortality in guinea pigs. The toxic symptoms exhibited by nogos poisoned animals were similar to anti-cholinesterase poisoning. The lowest dose of nogos (25 mg/kg body wt.) displayed mild to moderate toxic symptoms without causing any mortality and this dose was found to be non lethal to adult guinea pigs. Higher doses of 50 and 75 mg/kg body wt. of nogos produced 50 and 100% mortality respectively in guinea pigs. The administration of atropine alone and in combination with DAM afforded 100% protection against nogos. On comparing the efficacy between atropine and atropine plus DAM, the latter was found to be better therapy against nogos poisoning in guinea pig.
