Effect of gamma radiation on seed germination, growth and sex expression of Carica papaya L.

Among the gamma radiation doses the percentage of seed germination increased significantly at 50 r only. Seedling survival percentage was decreased significantly at all the treatments. The highest plant height and base diameter were found at 100 r, 500 r and 5000 r in monoecious, female and male plants respectively. Radiation increased significantly the number of female sub-sessile flowers and the highest number was at 1000 r. The highest length, circumference and weight of fruit were found at 100 r.
