Effect of moisture stress on seed yield of jute
1989
Noor-Newaz, K.M. | Hashim, S.A. | Taher, M.A.
The influence of three moisture regimes at two stages of growth (Bud initiation stage and Flower formation stage) on the total seed yield, number of branches and number of fruits of Corchorus capsularis (cv. D-154) and Corchorus olitorius (cv. 0- 4) was studied under pot condition in the glasshouse. The moisture regimes included field capacity (FC), 60% of FC and 40% of FC. The highest number of branches, fruits and seed yield per plant were obtained at FC and these were reduced significantly (P=0.05) at 40% moisture of FC in both cultivars and in both stages of growth. The number of fruits in D-154 was higher than 0-4 irrespective of moisture and reproductive stage treatments. It was also observed in both cultivars that moisture stress at bud initiation stage had more severe effect on reducing seed yield than in flower formation stage.
