An investigation into fisheries knowledge of fish farmers towards fish culture management

The main thrust of the study was to investigate the impact of fisheries knowledge of the farmers towards fish culture management. An attempt was also taken to explore the relationships between the selected characteristics of the farmers and their fisheries knowledge towards fish culture management practices. The selected characteristics included age, education, pond size, pond tenure, income, organizational participation, extension contact and fatalism. It was observed that among the survey farmers 46% possessed low, 38% medium and only 16% high knowledge in different aspects of fish culture. The Chi-square test showed that the organizational participation and extension contact of the farmers had significant positive relationship with their fisheries knowledge regarding fish culture management practices.
