[Production characteristics of Florida Sevillana goats]

A study was made of milk production in an experimental flock of Florida Sevillana goats drawn from 14 different farms. Mean production was 438,50 milk after 210 days of lactation, and 499,76 kg after 240 days. The mean production for complete lactation was 544,88 kg after 279,25 days of lactation. Factors influencing milk production include the season in which kidding takes place, and the number of previous lactations, behaviour in this respect being similar to that of other neighbouring flocks. In Mediterranean climates, goats kidding in summer and autumn have longer lactation periods and therefore a higher milk production. One of the most relevant features of this breed is the duration of lactation; the mean of almost 280 days has not been reported for any other Andalusian breed
