A target experimental dairy-cow farm demonstrates the present results of research, development and applications of microelectronics in tie-stall barns for dairy cows; this type of housing is prevailing in the Czechoslovak agriculture. The complex management system of farm operation based on automatic data acquisition and computerized data processing, implemented by technological lines with exactness, has favourable effects on the returns evaluated in view of 1990 prices (increase in milk yield by 13.2 per cent and decrease in the specific cost of feeds by 16.5 per cent in a cow herd transferred to the test barn). A comparison of the test and control barns enables to figure an increase in the perfomance of each housed dairy cow by at least 220 l milk per year and a decrease in the specific cost of feed by 0.123 Kcs per l milk. The computer-aided management system of automatic operation of the feed preparation and dispensation line reduces the control activities of operators to the minimum. In the control barn the working time of animal feeding relatively increases by 112 per cent and concentrate portioning by hand takes longer by 90 minutes. This is positively reflected in the economic results of the test barn.
