Four-year trials were performed to study the stimulation effect of laser irradiation on fibre flax seed by screening and focusing method. The laser of the Czechoslovak production has been used - the Metra LA-1001 type of wave length 632.8 nm. The results of emergence rate of healthy seed and the seed having the lower biological value at the gradated rates of irradiation and the time intervals to 27 days after exposure are given within the paper. The process of germinative power and of the total germinative rate was balanced in the groups of healthy seed (95 per cent) as well as of the seed with lower biological value (84 per cent ) in all higher irradiation rates 1 to 6 mW and in the time interval from 1 to 27 days after exposure. No stimulating effect of irradiation at the rates to 30 mW has been demonstrated even in the trials performed in growing cylindres, vessels and field trials on the morphological characteristics of flax, stem yield, seed yield and fibre content. In vitro experiments, no effectiveness of laser irradiation has been established in exposure rates to 390 mWs on the decreased efficacy of Phoma exiqua var. linicola and Colletorichum lini fungi in pure culture and fungi isolated from irradiated seeds. The method of presowing seed treatment of fibre flax by laser irradiation is not recommended.
