Study of the performance of irrigated maize for grain grown on light soils
1991
Simon, J. (Vyzkumny Ustav Rostlinne Vyroby, Prague-Ruzyne (CSFR))
On the average of eight years, grain yields of maize increased by 1.82 t per ha, i.e. by 32 %, within an irrigation system. N application rates increased grain yields by maximally 20 % in the zero-irrigation conditions, and by 25 % in irrigated crop. The application rate of 150 kg N per ha had negative effects on grain yields (yield decrease by 7 %). The higher density of maize plants (100 thousand plants per ha) increased grain yields by 8 % in the zero-irrigation conditions, and by 11 % within an irrigation system (+0.85 t per ha). The effects of these factors on the formation and output of maize biomass dry matter were also concluded.
