Possibilities of the use of mathematical functions for growth ring series standardization

Three mathematical functions of growth ring series standardization were verified with respect to their suitability. Standardization will remove the age trend from time series. In this way a stationary time series - trendless series, will be formed; then it will be possible to apply the theories which will enable to study the factors influencing the fluctuation of time series values. Although the size of the tested set of growth ring series is relatively small (the results are demonstrated on this set), each of the three mentioned functions was found to be most suitable for standardization under certain conditions. Its suitability depends on the length of growth ring series in the forest stands which were investigated in this study.
